"She and the Old
Moss Covered Rock"
You start out with a young wife, and a head full of dreams,
But over the years you all seem to lose a little steam.
Down by the creek she found an old moss covered rock,
Said it would be her place to just sit, think, and talk.
She's mothered a young family, and raised them with pride,
While all the time working the ranch, right there by my side>
Working together 24 hours a day,
It's not so easy, but I'm proud that she stayed.
She's stood there beside me when times have been rough,
She's the reason I've been strong, and able to stay so tuff.
The kids have all grown up now and moved away,
She's still there by my side, day after day.
She still gets excited every spring,
when the mares are ready to foal,
I guess it's that strong maternal instinct, or so I've been
told.
She's had little time to spend down by the creek
on that old moss covered rock,
She damn sure hasn't had time to sit around and just talk.
I'll be out mending fence in the Summer heat,
She'll take the time to ride out with a cool drink,
and a special treat.
She Knows what to do when I'm dog tired and fed up,
She gives me a hug and a smile, I melt like a pup.
She knows the simple things that make life all worthwhile,
And to me that makes her my Queen of the Nile.
We're a lot older now and I'd like to take more
time to just sit and talk,
Or maybe hold hands down by the creek,
on that old moss covered rock. |
